Castles in Japan

Matsumoto Castle is located on Honshu, the main island of Japan.

It is the oldest surviving Japanese structure, consisting of a main tower with several storeys and is built on a plain. The black walls enhance what is considered one of Japan’s most awe-inspiring castles and have given rise to the nickname ‘Crow Castle.’

Himeji Castle in Japan was built as a fortification against local shoguns in 1346.

It remains well preserved, as it never saw battle. Himeji is a hill castle surrounded by twisting paths and the white walls have given it the nickname of ‘White Heron Castle.’
