Castles in Romania
Peles Castle sits in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania and is considered one of the most beautiful castles in Europe.
Surrounded by terraces with an impressive display of statues and marble, Peles was the final resting place for several Romanian monarchs. It is now a museum containing priceless paintings, furniture, and sculptures.
Bran Castle in Romania sits on a cliff-face near the Bran Pass, and is known as ‘Dracula’s Castle.’
Its rather eerie appearance has convinced locals that it is the home of the infamous Count Dracula though there do not appear to be any connections to Bram Stoker or Vlad the Impaler. The Knights of the Teutonic Order originally built it as a stronghold in 1212 and it now functions as a museum of medieval arts.
Hunyad Castle is a 14th century Gothic castle situated in Transylvania, Romania.
The castle has been extensively renovated after fire and many decades of neglect took their toll on the building. Vlad the Impaler was held prisoner in Hunyad for seven years and this has given rise to the belief that the castle was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Castle Dracula. It is believed that the castle is haunted.
