Beaumaris Castle on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales is a perfectly symmetrical castle designed to be almost impregnable to attack.
One of King Edward I ‘iron ring of castles,’ a campaign to conquer the north of Wales, it was never completed due to the death of the King and the architect Master James of St George. Beaumaris Castle was besieged and captured in 1403 by the, then, Prince of Wales before being retaken by the English in 1405.
