Castles in Poland
Ksiaz Castle in Poland is also known as ‘The Pearl of Lower Silesia’ and lies within a protected area called Ksiaz Landscape Park.
Built in the 13th century it has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. Upon being seized by the Nazis in 1945, the Red Army took up occupation and all artefact’s within were lost or destroyed. The castle is now a major tourist attraction.
Malbork Castle in Poland is a medieval brick castle founded in Prussia in 1274 by the Teutonic Order.
It is the largest castle in the world going by surface space, and the biggest brick building in Europe. The main cathedral in the castle was destroyed during World War II, and is still in ruins. Today the castle serves as a site for permanent and temporary exhibitions and offers guided tours to visitors.
